    You Again Review

You Again brings you into the female world, looking into how women deal with their traumatic or unpleasant highschool memories. Even if you are a guy, you might find the interactions amusing. The movie was entertaining, even for the three guys I was watching it with. They might have been laughing more than me. You don’t need to rush out to watch it, but if you want to watch something, it’s not bad. Marni (Kristen Bell) deals with her high [...]

  • Detective Dee and The Mystery of the Phantom Flame Review

Detective Dee and The Mystery of the Phantom Flame Review

Although I feel asleep while watching Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, it wasn’t that bad. Empress Wu summons Detective Dee, who was previously exiled, to solve the recent mysterious deaths. People seemed to suffer from  internal combustion because they exploded in flames. I have no idea why some of the English translation seemed to be a bit off, but I’m no translation expert. The talking deer of divine intervention aside, the action scenes were quite exciting [...]

  • Tim meets Barry and his mouseterpiece. Yes, those are dead and stuffed mice!

    Dinner for Schmucks Review

It was worth watching Dinner for Smucks at the cinema, but I have no idea why it was released terribly late in Singapore. I rarely recommend watching a comedy at the cinema because, unlike action and horror movies, having a joke being told to you on a big screen doesn’t make a bigger impact. Well done, Jay Roach, who is also the director of Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers. It’s about an executive who needs to impress his [...]

Liar Game (The Final Stage) Review

If you like logic puzzles and believe in trusting mankind, you will love this movie. Although it is actually the final installment of a two-season Japanese TV series, you can watch the movie without knowing a thing about the previous episodes. The series and movie revolves around two main characters Nao Chan (Toda Erika) and Akiyama Shinichi (Matsuda Shota). Nao Chan is used as a pawn to involve Akiyama into the Liar Game at the beginning of the series. The [...]

  • Inception Review

    Inception Review

If you haven’t watched it yet, do go watch Inception before you watch anything else. It’s been a long time since I really felt completely satisfied with watching a movie at the cinema. For those who have watched it but are a still a bit confused, check out the spoiler bits for my further analysis. Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Ken Watanabe Director: Christopher Nolan Genre: Action/ Adventure Language: English Release Date:15 July 2010 Running Time:148 minutes Distributor:WB Rating: (Singapore [...]

    The Scorcerer’s Apprentice Review

The Scorcerer’s Apprentice isn’t a must see film, but something I would watch if I were bored. It’s about a boy who is destined to become a great scorcerer and fights the evil forces. It’s basically a movie more suitable for tweens. Any teen or older person would somewhat find it a bit juvenile. I have a feeling that nerdy science geeks would relate more to the main character. However, it still is entertaining and enjoyable. If you want a [...]

  • Original movie poster from Korea. Much more creepy than the SG poster.

    The Blood Pledge Review

Currently showing in Singapore, but released in Singapore on 18 June 2009. Watch this movie more for the story than the horror element. Females are more likely to identify with the characters, since male relationships tend not to involve such drastic loyalty and exclussive BFFs. Guys would probably be more interested in the cute Korean girls in school uniforms, though it doesn’t offer much in terms of skin. The version showing at the Cathay Cineplexes is the edited version, so [...]

    The Scorcerer’s Apprentice

Hoping to win free tickets to watch this movie! I know that my answer is quite mushy, but what can I say besides that is what I would do? What would you do? Who is planning to watch this? Contest Question: If you are a sorcerer’s apprentice, what would you use your powers for? Besides fighting off the evil powers of the world, I would like to help the world start off with a clean slate. However, it would be [...]
